"About two years ago, I was walking down the block early in the morning when I saw a dead bird-- not itself unusual, as being a city-dweller all my life I've seen an unhappy number of unlucky pigeons grotesquely arranged on the curbs and streets. But the bird I saw that morning was completely intact, not a feather out of place, and I could imagine it dying mid-flight and just dropping on the ground.

When I found the antique photo I reproduce on the Momento Mori necklaces, I was immediately of that morning. This bird in the photo looks so gentle and creaturely and real and still it is so dead.
